The Russian frigate practiced maneuvers in the English Channel

Story:

“Admiral Golovko” repelled attacks by air and sea drones of a mock enemy in front of the British Navy.

PORTSMOUTH (IA Realist). The British Royal Navy’s HMS Iron Duke accompanied the new Russian frigate Admiral Golovko, the auxiliary tanker Vyazma and the research vessel Yantar as they passed through the English Channel. Golovko is the third ship of the Admiral Gorshkov class and the newest warship of the Russian Navy, commissioned in the presence of President Vladimir Putin in December 2023. This class is equipped with modern 3M22 Zircon hypersonic missiles. On November 2, the destroyer Admiral Golovko and tanker Vyazma left the Northern Fleet base in Severomorsk to take part in the global deployment. He conducted exercises in the Barents, Norwegian and North Seas before heading west across the English Channel. In the strait, the crew of the Admiral Golovko, under the close supervision of a British Navy ship, carried out an “anti-terrorist operation”, during which they repelled attacks by air and sea drones of a mock enemy.

Ending part:

Following Russian warships is a routine task for the British Navy, having been carried out since the start of the Cold War in the 1950s, and is not a cause for concern. Russian warships have the right of innocent passage through the English Channel, and such transits are not generally considered a sign of an increased threat to Britain. Once a NATO vessel has engaged in surveillance of a Russian warship or vessel of interest, it maintains a safe distance and may occasionally circle and record electronic emissions and collect images using high-power electro-optical cameras, Navy Lookout reports. Electronic (ELINT) and signal (SIGINT) intelligence collected during routine passages is unlikely to reveal anything that is not already known. However, establishing a pattern of habitual operating behavior helps to build a picture and will help to quickly detect any deviation from the norm. Radio communications with Russian sailors are generally described as diplomatic, cordial and professional.
