Xiaomi 14T Pro smartphone review: sub-flagship with cool hardware and neural networks.

Xiaomi 14T Pro smartphone review sub flagship with cool hardware and neural networks

Xiaomi 14T Pro:

Xiaomi 14T Pro is an excellent example of a model that has everything you need, and not at an astronomical price. A couple of comments – rather at the level of nitpicking, in order to maintain objectivity. We tell you the most important things about one of the most interesting new products this fall.

Slightly simplified versions of flagships have always been in demand. Simply because the capabilities of modern “tops” have long exceeded the real needs of most users. There are only a small number of geeks left for whom it is important to have the brightest screen, the most advanced processor and a camera with 10x optical zoom. Everything else is essentially provided by subflagships. Their components may not be the “best,” but they are some of the best. And with the savings of twenty thousand rubles you can buy yourself cool headphones, a power bank and a set of “week” cases.

Xiaomi 14T Pro is just a sub-flagship model. We took it for a test to understand what exactly it was missing. And isn’t it enough?

Design:

This is the first thing I want to praise the creators of Xiaomi 14T for. No waterfall screens, no flirting with colors on the rear panel – everything is strict and concise. When you take the smartphone in your hand, it feels exactly like a flagship model.

The back cover is glass with a matte finish. The coating not only looks nice, but also feels like soft-touch, that is, it has a barely noticeable roughness. There are no fingerprints left, making the appearance of the gadget always perfect.

The camera block is located in the corner – these are traditional “burners” on a small podium. Only the lenses are not covered with a single glass, as in Xiaomi 14, but are made separately. Their cylinders also seem to be metal, so they don’t interfere with the overall “premium” concept. True, they stick out strongly beyond the plane.

Aluminum frame – straight. Although the back panel has slight curves, the smartphone is comfortable to hold and does not slip out of your hands like many fashionable analogues with rounded screens. On the right side are, as usual, the power button and volume keys.

At the bottom there is a USB-C connector and a slot for two SIM cards. There is no audio jack here, nor is there support for memory cards. But you can use e-SIM – however, then you won’t be able to connect a physical SIM card in the second slot.

Display:

The Xiaomi 14T Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2712×1220. The resolution is a little non-standard – all because of the not very popular 20:9 aspect ratio. The maximum screen refresh rate is 144 Hz. Considering the powerful hardware, the temptation to try top games on a smartphone is very great, and here the increased number of Hertz will be very useful.

The maximum brightness is stated at 4000 nits, and this is a lot. We did not measure whether it is achieved physically, but the screen is indeed bright, and there are no problems using the gadget outdoors (though there wasn’t much sun in Moscow in November).

In the settings section, in addition to theme options (light and dark) and eye protection elements, you can find interesting functions under the general name “AI Visualization System”. Here’s what’s included.

  • “Super resolution” – obviously, allows you to reach the screen resolution with a poor source;
  • HDR enhancement – uses HDR processing to improve video quality;

MEMC – completes intermediate frames in dynamic scenes to ensure smooth movement.

Performance:

There can be no complaints here at all: the manufacturer did not skimp on the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 9300+, comparable in performance to Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. In addition to it, 12 GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM. The result is an excellent “harvest” of points in various benchmarks. For example, 2 million points in Antutu provide the Xiaomi 14T Pro with a place, if not in the top 5, then certainly in the top ten most powerful smartphones by the end of 2024.
